News Release:
February 6, 2012
(Derby, Kansas) – For the past thirty- three years, Derby residents and visitors have enjoyed the fun, family-friendly activities offered at the community’s annual Derby Days festival. Now, it’s time to look ahead, as planning for the 34th annual event has begun!
The 2012 festival will be held on
Father’s Day weekend,
June 14 – 18, at Derby High
School, 920 N. Rock Rd.
The first official committee meeting will
be held at
11:30 a.m. on Wednesday,
February 29th
in Meeting Rooms A & B at the
Derby Recreation Commission,
801 E. Market. Derby Days Board members
will share information about the festival
planning process and answer questions about
the upcoming event. Expect many of the
same great events, like KidFest and the
Sundown Parade, to return in 2012...
but new ideas and new volunteers are
welcome.
Two types of volunteers are needed. First are volunteers who meet regularly from February through June to participate in event planning meetings. Committee members are needed for several key Derby Days functions, including:
- ShopFest (Craft & Business Fair)
- Volunteer Coordination
- Food Court
- Car Show (New in 2012!)
- Dog Show
- Parking and Security
- Entertainment
- Marketing
Second, volunteers will be needed during the event to help with set up, clean up, event support, button sales and more. Volunteers can dedicate as little as two hours at a time to this fantastic community event, and no experience is necessary. Detailed descriptions for all of these opportunities can be found online at www.derbydaysks.com.
